EVCashback
A practical guide for Canadian EV drivers

EV cash-back tools for
drivers and new buyers.

Compare two EVs under the same driving assumptions, estimate Level 1 or Level 2 charging time, and get clear answers about Canadian home-charging cash back. Figures are samples, not provider quotes.

01 / Compare vehicles

Same kilometres.
Different energy needs.

Change the province, vehicles, or weekly driving. Both estimates use the same location and distance so the comparison stays fair.

Typical ranges are not a charge-time promise. Actual time varies by vehicle, circuit or charger, and conditions. Level 2 is faster, but does not inherently earn more cash back; payout depends on eligible energy and provider rules.

03 / Put the numbers in context

What can change
your cash back?

The estimate is a starting point, not a promise. Here is what the calculation measures, why home-charging eligibility matters, and what to check before you count on an offer.

01 / A WORKED EXAMPLE

Follow one estimate from kilometres to cash back

For the default sample—Tesla Model 3 in Ontario at 240 km per week—the calculator estimates 1,934 kWh per year and $116–$193 at sample rates of $0.06–$0.10 per kWh. That is a calculation example, not a current provider offer.

02 / HOME CHARGING

Your eligible home energy is the key input

This comparison assumes all modeled energy is charged at home and qualifies. If you charge at work, on the road, or at more than one residence, a home-charging offer may count only part of your use. Ask how the provider measures eligible energy before relying on the estimate.

03 / LEVEL 1 VS. LEVEL 2

Choose charging speed for your routine

For 240 km of weekly driving, Natural Resources Canada’s typical rates work out to roughly 30–80 hours at Level 1 or 5–15 hours at Level 2. These are broad ranges: your EV, circuit, charger, and conditions affect actual time. Faster charging does not automatically mean a larger cash-back payment.

04 / BEFORE YOU ENROLL

Five details worth confirming

Check that the offer serves your location; confirm which charger, meter, or data connection is accepted; ask what charging periods and kWh qualify; confirm enrollment timing; and read how the provider calculates and pays rewards. Requirements differ by program, so verify the current terms directly.

04 / Questions owners actually ask

EV cash-back questions,
answered plainly.

How is the EV cash-back comparison calculated?

It holds province and weekly driving distance constant, then compares each vehicle’s catalog energy-use estimate. In this sample, Tesla Model 3 uses about 1,934 kWh per year and Tesla Model Y about 2,184 kWh per year at 240 km per week. The cash-back ranges apply illustrative rates, not verified offers.

How long could it take to add 240 km with Level 1 or Level 2?

Using Natural Resources Canada’s typical range-added rates, the rough estimate is 30–80 hours at Level 1 or 5–15 hours at Level 2. Actual time varies by vehicle, charger or circuit, and conditions. Natural Resources Canada’s charging guidance.

Does a Level 2 charger automatically earn more cash back?

No. Level 2 can add driving range faster, but the cash-back amount depends on eligible energy and provider terms—not charging speed alone.

What should I check before joining a cash-back program?

Confirm the provider serves your location, which home charger or meter data is required, what charging energy qualifies, when enrollment must begin, and how payments are calculated. Requirements differ by offer, so check the provider’s current terms.

Are the rates and earnings shown official or guaranteed?

No. Rates and vehicle inputs on this page are sample assumptions, not official government rates or a guaranteed provider offer. The Clean Fuel Regulations do not promise a fixed household payment. Government of Canada overview of the Clean Fuel Regulations.
